About

After years working in office-based administration and analysis roles, I realised I was searching for something more hands-on and creative. A period of research, short courses and voluntary work led me to woodworking, and I decided to take a leap of faith.

While retraining at Portsmouth College, where I gained an advanced qualification in carpentry, I combined my creative instincts with strong organisational skills and founded Tortoise Woodwork. My journey in history of art & architecture and archival science, and roles in pharmacy, forestry, defence, and IT, all inform the way I operate today.

I now bring five years of full-time woodworking experience and nearly four years of running my own business to every project. I work closely and logically with clients to develop thoughtful, high-quality designs, adding lasting value to natural materials through careful craftsmanship.

Why Tortoise Woodwork?

It refers to the story of the Tortoise and the Hare, where a diligent Tortoise outwits a competitive and excitable Hare through ingenuity, patience and discipline. This reflects the idea of nurturing gradual growth, using a careful approach to build more resilience and flexibility.
